Oakes Daylilies is a family farm has been around for three generations. We know daylilies because that’s all we grow. Nestled in East Tennessee near the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, we’ve been growing farm-fresh daylilies for over 40 years and have built our business on sending huge, healthy plants that take off right away. We don't sell daylilies that we wouldn't plant in our own home gardens.
As gardeners, we love to share what we grow! That's why you'll receive free daylilies (we call them "bonus" plants) with every order. If for some reason a daylily doesn't grow for you, no problem! We offer a lifetime guarantee on all our daylilies.
Thanks to our large, healthy daylilies, our lifetime guarantee, superior customer service and a passion for what we do, we have earned a stellar reputation across the country. We take your trust-and our daylilies-seriously.

These Daylilies Add Garden Magic
White daylilies are like magic in the garden: they blend with everything, offer a tranquil calm to the bright colors of summer and can lend an air of sophistication, a vintage charm or a fresh modern twist depending on your landscape design. In this video, Ken Oakes shares 5 of our favorite near white varieties.
All daylilies hail from yellow and orange varieties. For that reason, there is no such thing as a "true" white daylily. To acknowledge that, you will often hear us refer to them as "near" white.
Most near white daylilies appear white from a distance but, as you'll see in this video, run the gamut on the "white" end of the color spectrum!
We love this about them and think this is the secret to their ability to blend with EVERYTHING in the garden! Check it out!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU!
When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger - two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and produce more blooms quicker.
All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

5 Easy Tips: How to Take Good Flower Photos | Oakes Daylilies

We've been growing daylilies for over 40 years. Between our catalog, website and just generally loving daylilies, we've taken thousands of pictures. We feel like we know something about how to take good pictures of daylilies! One of the great perks in growing daylilies is how they add such effortless beauty to your garden. (If you grow them, you know what I'm talking about it!) So it only seems...
Diamond Dusting!! When a daylily has that little extra sparkle I just think that’s so pretty ✨✨✨
I really love these
You have the best selections and largest fans that are offered . Thank you so very much Ken ❤. I wanted to add to your descriptions and that is that some very light colored daylilles fade throughout the day becoming very close to the white that is wanted for certain mixings.
i tend to go for the "brights" but the near whites do add some light to the yard
Thanks Ken! Good video!
I live in Arizona and have blooms but the heat comes and I’ve moved them to the shady areas. My question is will they just burn up and die in heat?? I know nothing lives here on walls that face the afternoon sun but how much heat can they really take??
My Lilly beds have thinned out over the years. I removed all the spent flower stalks and leaves. Would fertilizer help them grow fuller for next year?
Possibly. They may be overcrowded, too. If they have plenty of space, fertilizing might be just what they need. We usually recommend fertilizing in the spring before they begin to bud out but if you want to fertilize now it should be fine as long as you avoid getting on the foliage (it can burn the leaves) and water it in well.
Thanks for the information! PS: Love the cicadas, sounds like my childhood!
I have 2 large pots of daylilies that have been blooming for years and are very crowded. What is the best way to divide them without breaking my pot?
Hello there. I have some Orange day Lillie's and I have 3 bulbs that all flowered this year. Is it possible to make more shoot next year or will I always get 3 come up? These flowers are my late grandfather's and grandmother's from 35+ years ago. I'd love to have a plant pot full of them. Is it possible to gather seeds from the flowers or can I cut the bulb in half or do something to multiply them? Thanks for any help and suggestions.
I've planted in fall and had them pop up in the spring.. took 2 years to bloom and now 5 years after planting, i have some beautiful flowers that look different than the parents and some.look like the parent.
That's exciting!! Always cool to see what pops up when planting seeds!
Those are beautiful, never did get my catalog i ordered, I'm thinking maybe i should order again🙏
Just wondered if you did an update after you planted the daylily seeds and how they germinated.?
Unfortunately, we got busy and forgot about those little seedlings. We're going to plant more again this year and share the results later
What is the name of the daylilly you are holding in video?
That's Persian Market. It's an outstanding daylily and one of our most popular
Love Lilies
They're easy to love!
Doubles are my Favorite! I have such a long list of “wants” for my doubles collection. Sorry I missed you at the festival. You had ran to the office but I had a wonderful time.
Sorry to have missed you but thanks for coming out. We had a great time, too. It's always so nice to see so many people who love daylilies as much as we do.
The Daylilies I got from you last year are finally blooming. I am ecstatic
What is the best time of year to divide daylilies? I live in zone 6A. in Idaho.
The best time to divide daylilies is after they bloom. Doing so before they bloom could impact their bloom for that season. Here in East Tennessee, we prefer to divide in fall because a) it's after bloom season and b) it's not so hot. If you choose to divide your plants in fall, make sure you do so at least a month or more before your first hard freeze.
Are you going to do an update to your seed starting video?
We're going to have to try it again. We forgot to water them last year and they didn't make it.
@@OakesDaylilies Thanks, appreciate the answer. Do you think seeds need stratification, or can they go straight from the pods to planting?
@@katiem9644 There is some mixed thought on that in the gardening community. We shot a video last year that discusses it in detail. Hope this helps: ua-cam.com/video/tAvG-WtYl0E/v-deo.html
@@OakesDaylilies Thank you!
@@OakesDaylilies Thats the video I saw where you did the experiment.
Beautiful! Thank you for these videos!
Thanks for watching! We appreciate it
Unrelated question, but how worried are you about the daylily fall midge making its way to the US a few years ago? Do you think it will become a major problem?
Obviously we hope it doesn't become a problem, but at this point we really don't know much about that, so we can't really say what to expect.
❤
What happened to the stratified and non-stratified seeds you planted 8 months ago from the seed harvesting video?
Somebody (not naming names!) forgot to water them and they did not make it. We intend to try it again in a couple of weeks
I want them all! Lol
good video and as a subscriber, I would suggest that you put a list in your notes of the products you’re talking about and not just a link so that we can screenshot them! 😉
We put their names in our video for that purpose but we will add them to our description as well. Thanks for the suggestion!
Beautiful!
Thanks for another great video, Ken. I've been eyeing the double bourbon for a while now, I'll have to give in!
It's a beauty!
Thank you this was very interesting.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful spider daylilies! I just ordered Chloe and some other lilies. Excited to get them in the ground!!
Chloe is a beauty! Way more gorgeous in person than in a catalog-- you'll love her! Thank you for watching and for your order
Where are you located, I'm in Maryville Tenn
Hey neighbor! We're in Corryton-- just north east of Knoxville. About 45 minutes or so from you.
I just ran across your channel and you confirmed what I had thought to be so about the seeds. I would imagine it’s like that for any flower that produces seed pods like peonies for example. I’m going to give it a try when pods come out for both the lilies and peonies. It’s the end of June 2024 right now. I live in northern Vermont and my day lilies are just starting to open some flowers. I just like to add you are quite pleasing to the eye! Handsome man you are.
Thank you for watching. If you are try harvesting seeds, let us know: we're always interested in what other gardeners try!
So beautiful flowers 💐 your new friend is here
Mine are coming this week. I’m very excited!
I may have missed it, but when do you divide them? I'm in zone 9a Houston.
We typically divide our daylilies in late summer/early autumn. We like to do it when they're past their bloom season and it's a bit cooler out. It's less stressful on the plant. Here's a link to one of our videos that gets into detail about dividing: ua-cam.com/video/UZApXh_a7sk/v-deo.html
Did you mean to freeze the seeds or can I keep the seeds in the refrigerator?
I tried pollinating from one variety to another. I think I let the pods get too dry to harvest. I will try again another year!
Beautiful flowers 💐
What kind of lily are you holding? Is that a “tree” lily? If not, what is the difference. TY
Nice explanation. I have both daylilies and true lilies in my garden. They complement each other.
They do. I have both planted in my home garden too.
Thanks for this video, do you sale true Lily's or just day lilies
We just sell daylilies
@@OakesDaylilies k thank you, still waiting on my catalog, thanks for these videos
Have ordered from Oakes and my daylilies are beautiful but not all have bloomed yet. Some are smaller than others as I ordered the variety but will order individually next time. Fertilized once but don't want to get carried away! I am located in Indiana but if closer we would attend. Sounds like a fun & interesting event!
